This is absolutely hilarious and couldn’t happen to the nicest people however few there are.

Wait they only have 3,000 customers. How is that not the main story here, who cares if their data was hacked, if they are a custom of trump mobile they’re probably the sort of idiot that posts their photos credit card on Facebook anyway

I think probably half of those are YouTubers who bought the phone as a bit for content, to tear it down and see just how shit it is, etc.

Which almost seems like the reverse double con.

There was never a phone in the first place. Never expected to be. It was all a scam to get lefty YouTubers to buy a thing that doesn’t exist because they were going to shit all over it.

I want to put money on the fact that they sold the data, themselves, for a profit. Since they had an absolutely pathetic number of subscribers

This is a bit mean but it reminds me of some older customers I’ve had who were dealing with dementia. Sometimes you say stuff to them and they look both skeptical and a bit hostile like they don’t understand if what you said was offensive.

the company’s spokesperson then added the nugget that they were still evaluating whether they needed to inform the affected customers

    Very on brand.

Legit they might not have to because the laws around that are based on the number of people affected. 3600 might be below that number.

How many of them are content creators who were either rightoids given the phones for free or just got it to make fun of it on their videos

I’m more surprised that 3600 switched. I mean even among his most ardent followers there seems to be an understanding that he’s not good business.

That’s still 3,600 people who already fell for an obvious grift. That’s basically a gold mine in future scams!

I mean, all in all that’s less than I’d have thought it’d be. Kind of makes me feel better about things to be honest. I’ve had more than 3600 people engage with shit I’ve made and I’m nobody.

Interesting enough article, and thank you for sharing. But can we talk for a moment about the “About the author” and his apparent inability to decide whether that section should be in first- or third-person?

About the author: Writing is my one incontrovertible passion. Over the past six years, he has authored over 2,200 distinct articles on financial and tech-related topics, spanning nearly 1 million words. And he has been a member of Wcctech mobile team since 2025. As an alumnus of the University of Toronto, Rotman Commerce Program, I bring nuance, in-depth knowledge, and a unique perspective to every topic that I cover. When I’m not writing, I’m traveling the world, exploring hidden confectionaries and restaurants as an aspiring food connoisseur.

AIs tend to be consistent on things like that. I think it’s just two people writing things and the result has been bodged together.

Sounds like it was written by the author originally, then an editor or manager went “this doesn’t sound impressive enough. We need more metrics and hard numbers”. So they copy-pasted some third-person content from the author’s Wikipedia page, before sending it to the site.

It could be fixed by adding quotation marks around the 1st person sections, as if he’s saying them
