Mangione said that he endured physical pain for years.
“I shot Mr Thompson in Manhattan and he died,” he continued.
“When I did so, I understood that my actions would place him in fear of death or serious bodily injury,” he said. “I knew what I was doing was illegal.”
If the judge actually gives him 25 years and they can get state charges dismissed, that’s an okay deal, but there’s no guarantee of that. It wouldn’t surprise me if the prosecutors request life, his attorneys ask for 25 years, and the judge decides on 40.
What is shocking to me about this situation is if they had gone to trial, even with possible overwhelming evidence, I think some jurors would have been likely to nullify the law and just say he was not guilty of all charges.
