Legit didn’t know and don’t know what an FPGA is, just knew that someone resurrected the commodore brand and started to output shit. Also I kinda want their Linux flip phone.
You could describe an FPGA as hardware defined by software. That FPGA in the “C64” Could also be an “SNES” or something other (given enough resources).
Software tells the hardware how to behave, and it then basically becomes the next best thing. It’s like emulation, but on a hardware basis.
Unironically neat, and if it works with old add ons and whatnot it seems like a good way of doing that. Personally I lament that some old tech can’t be acquired anymore since even limited production has ceased to exist and if this is a way of doing that without lack of demand issues fine by me.
Can you get ones with sim card input for games? I’ve been considering getting a hacked PSP to emulate Gamevoy advanced games and to have pre downloaded PSP games and movies. If I can get something more modern with a bit more customizable features that be great, I do have a steam deck it’s just a bit too unwieldy to shove in my pocket like a GBA or PSP.
They aren’t Commodore 64s, they’re FPGAs wrapped in a 64 styled box.

It does work and it did so for a long time. You can buy handhelds in the form of a gameboy for example using this

Yes. You might need adapters for some. And you won’t find those for NES games I would guess.
Fucken A, I’ll look into it later.
