But this episode is of interest for another reason: El-Sayed’s stance articulates a bigger point about Vance’s craven compromises with the MAGA coalition’s racist and white nationalist elements that is 100 percent correct.

For me it’s always a red flag when the word “evil” is used. While it may be used in non-religious ways, it often has a religious context. Religion has caused too many problems for mankind, and that is why the separation of church and state is so important.
Implying “evil” is most often used religiously is ceding morality to religion. I say this as someone who is a Christian agnostic. If you have morals and you think things can be morally wrong, then you believe in “evil”. It comes up in religions because religions often discuss morality, but religions didn’t create the idea of evil.
