The man threatened passers-by, lit a fire and set off fireworks, police said, and was then detained. The building houses an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

by the same token my butt is an “explosive device”. Journalism in this country is in a sad state of affairs.

A woman who lives across the street from the building said she ran over to her window after hearing the pop of the fireworks. She said she saw a man pick up a gun, which prompted her to

Get the heck away from the window? I know that’s what I would do if I saw that shit going down. But no, instead she decided to

grab her cellphone and start recording a video.

Yup, peak 2026 right there. In fairness, after selling that video to the NYT she might be able to afford groceries this week.

Plus pouring a bunch of gasoline and ignoring that. Pretty definitely an anti-ICE protest

Tough to source a clean video but Ive seen it and can confirm it shows a male throwing a few gallons of an accelerant (probably gasoline) in an empty unoccupied staircase and then igniting the fuel. The explosives were reported initially, as I believe suspect had fireworks, but I have yet to see anything other than the fuel. Those not in the know this is Court/Fed alley, there is literally a dozen courts within 5 blocks (including the various courts inside 26 Fed), NYPD can literally pop up barriers from the street all around.
