Or don’t. Buy games that focus more on gameplay and less on graphics. We can push for cutting edge graphics and framerates again when prices stabilize, but we don’t need to throw more money at these companies right now.
For what? Any gaming card made since like 2017 is fully capable of playing almost any game. The only reason to upgrade is if you’re chasing super high resolutions, super high framerates, or using AI.
Was about to say 2017 might be pushing it, then I realised even my 3060ti is from 2020 anyway.
1080 TI from 2017 is honestly way too close in performance against 30/40/50 generation xx60 TI cards.
I’m not sure if that makes the 1080 TI impressive, or mid-range of the last three generations rather pathetic.

The push to buy stuff at current prices is giving “learn AI or you’ll be left behind” lingo. You dont need the latest graphics card, make them earn the price tag, don’t give them more money if they’re not willing to come down in price.

I’d be waiting until 2028 and substantial additional memory supply hitting the market myself if you can wait.
If you’re trying to decide between buying a video card in, say, mid-2027 or now, okay, yeah, maybe then it’d be better to buy it now. But if you don’t have a really strong need to upgrade in late 2026 or in 2027, you’re probably going to get more bang for your buck by waiting.
Going to be wild when the ai bubble pops in 2028 at the same time more memory capacity comes online.
I have a 9700XTX in my rig, my wife and kids all have 9070XTs… the most expensive of them cost me $850, I bought it last December before the shit hit the fan…
Hopefully we’ll be able to keep these going to ride out the current trend… I figure I’m good for about 5 years before I have to upgrade again.
Optimization stalled because before this everyone kept buying better gpus every 3-5 years.
Now that people can’t keep doing that, new games have to be at least as well optimized as “last gen” games to look “newer”.
So yeah, most people aren’t going to need to update for a while.
Especially since new DLSS is just an AI slop filter no one wants, because the only way to get usable frame rates with it, is to have 3/4s of your frames be AI hallucinations.
People are just turning all that off and achieving the same frame rates without the slip filter.
One big change is going to be the “new” console generation. The PS4 has set the minimum target hardware for well over a decade, but the switch to focusing on the PS5 will mean that soon devs don’t have to keep targetting hardware from 2013 to make sure their game can run on it, which will result in quite a massive bump in the low end requirements for PC users.
I switched from a 3080FE to a 9070XT (largely because I’m predominantly running Bazzite now, and AMD is less annoying as a gaming gpu on Linux - not to mention, I try to avoid giving NVDA business on new cards these days). Works like a charm.
Yeah, I run Fedora44 now… Was a big part of the reason for my switch to AMD, but I love my 9700XTX…amazing card…

The reason consumer gpus and ram are expensive, is companies make more building shit for data centers.
If there’s no data centers, they’ll build more stuff for consumer PCs. That will lower demand and prices will go down.
As long as blank checks are being written for datacenters, that’s what companies will make
