Yeah it’s rather jarring for those coming from discord. For us old goats it’s a bit more palatable, kind of like IRC+++. But we aren’t the median user.

1·4 days agoExactly. It’s all a farce of a pretext on its face. But far too many people believe the state not only can be neutral but benevolent. Something which has never been born out in the long term. And are looking for the state to save them from a system built to serve those that would be the state. It’s the height of fantasy.

33·7 days agoThe parents who wouldn’t be responsible. Aren’t going to be responsible just because there’s laws. They never have been. And realistically it’s just going to punish otherwise decent ones who due to circumstances beyond their knowledge failed.
Make considerations for child neglect and endangerment charges considering such things when it’s appropriate. That’s workable/palatable. But the state policing basic social interaction is dystopian as fuck and screaming for abuse. No thanks. The state isn’t worthy of that sort of trust in the first place. Not one of them. Leave it to the families and communities, focus on helping them to succeed. It’s cheaper and more effective.

82·7 days agoI support guidance and recommendation of age groups and time limits etc for guardians to consult. Just as having a drinking age never stopped those under it from drinking. Realistically this will be far less effective but more intrusive and abusive.
Give the guardians the tools, time, and guidance to do their jobs. There’s definitely no legitimate use for laws and legislation restricting it though. The countries that have already passed the laws are already proving it doesn’t work. Why anyone else thinks it will be different or that they can do better is beyond me. Unless of course they don’t think that and it’s never been about that.

Their bandwidth usage comes from their desire to be their own streaming service. They provide access to a whole bunch of other media you may have no interest in.

Global News@lemmy.zip•China calls for Maduro’s immediate release, accuses US of breaching international lawEnglish
01·6 months agoI know, and that’s why I didn’t down vote you. It’s just not really useful here. The United States calls out China all the time for its imperialism, oppression and abuses. And inevitably ML fall back to United States/West Bad. To defang any criticism. It’s not valid or appropriate when they do it. And it’s not when we do it either. Even when done with appropriate nuance as you did.
This is something that the United States is absolutely going to have to own. The criticism is 100% deserved and doesn’t need any defense or deflection like that. Unless of course, they are openly saying that they are better than the United States or the West. Then it would be absolutely appropriate. If it weren’t for hypocritical criticism, there wouldn’t be hardly be any criticism.

01·6 months agoHey now. No reason to start behaving like tankies/ML. If it’s valid for the West to criticize them for their faults. (It is) Then, turn about is just as valid. Even if the criticism comes from a place of hypocrisy like this.
If anything, this should just be a reminder that no state is your ally or a responsible actor. And that the more power and concentration they have, like the United States, Russia, or China. The more brazenly they will abuse the people they’re supposed to represent and everyone around them.

Well that and society as a whole needs to find ways to give parents time and said tools to actually do that. But you certainly are not wrong.
