Dissapoining that people won’t look past he’s religious.

It’s interesting. Do we think those same people care that Mamdani and el-Sayed are Muslim? Because in those cases it’s obvious that a person being religious doesn’t mean they espouse the most conservative version of their religion. There are progressive Christian churches and even entire denominations, but we seem less willing to offer the benefit of the doubt to a Christian.

I can understand, though. In the US we’re far more familiar with the abuses and failings of the religion more familiar to us. We’re more likely to have entrenched opinions colored by years of exposure to the most regressive parts of the religion.

Because the hypocrites are the loudest…

I balked when I saw “megapastor” too, but dude seems legit. His experience leading a congregation of 25k every week is a huge advantage.

His public speaking is going to be unbeatable, and he’s not just going to push progressive policy on Kansas, he’s gonna do it while quoting actual scripture.

Everyone wants rightwing extremists to jump straight to enlightened atheism, ignoring the indisputable fact that some people really do need religion, so treating all of them the same just helps the extremist ones.

If somebody has to believe in God, and will vote how they think God wants them to, might as well give them the option of a god who actually wants to help people.

Especially when the candidate supports the voters wishers more than the last two presidential candidates.

Personally I’m willing to bite my tongue and give the benefits required to see if his actions match his words. If not I’ll skip straight to proposing his sacrifice to my god and stripping the copper from his churches walls.
