Hey all, I’m on the hunt for games that really suck you into their world, the kind where you look up and suddenly three hours have gone by.
Games I’ve loved and couldn’t put down:
- Plague Tale
- Horizon
- Subnautica
- Mass Effect
- Expedition 33
- Homeworld
Doesn’t matter the gente, as long as it’s got that vibe where you just exist in the atmosphere and forget about everything else.
What are your go-to games when you want to disappear into another world? Bonus appreciation if it’s something underrated or off the beaten path.
Edit: Thank you all. I will definitely keep this thread bookmarked. You all dwarved what I found on Reddit ir any other platform! Well done!

The biggest mistake everyone makes is that they watch videos about how to play first. It’s fine to watch a bit to see if you’d even be interested but once you make the call, if you want to be immersed in a game just play it and experience it yourself!
I noticed you mentioned games with strong stories. I tend to play more open ended games but my first suggestion has a stronger narrative and that is The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human.
The rest are games that sucked up way too much of my time lol:
I’d say that’s fine for action games, fighting games, and maybe shmups. These genres have a habit of hiding, neglecting to explain, or poorly explaining their central mechanics—e.g. Dodge Offset in Bayonetta, Wonder Liner in The Wonderful 101, or literally any mechanic in fucking Hellsinker 😂
And older, mechanically dense fighting games like Guilty Gear Plus R literally do not have a tutorial. You’d be completely lost without a wiki or guide of some kind.
