GM, Ford Motor and Stellantis — also called the Detroit Three — could see their combined market share dip to around 36% in the quarter

Why are they pretending that a company from the Netherlands is a US auto maker?

When they bought out one of the former big three (Chrysler) they kinda got included as a de facto member.

Does that mean Fiat, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo are also US brands now too? They could have included Tesla instead of Stellantis since Tesla actually is a US company (along with Ford and GM as the only remaining US brands). The article seems pretty nonsensical because of this.

Tesla didn’t get its start in Detroit. It said the “Detroit Three”, which was Ford, GM and Chrysler. Chrysler is owned by Stellantis now. So it made since to mention the parent company.

I get that, but the article is about US manufacturers and their sales numbers not sales of companies that once had a footprint in Detroit historically.

I’m sure these companies want to pretend like they’re still ‘American owned’ but they aren’t and we shouldn’t entertain their fantasies. I mean if the why not include Toyota in that definition considering they’re built with the most US labor and US parts, even more so than companies like Ford and GM on average, since the parent company location doesn’t matter?
