Women ruined gaming again… Note: This is my first EVER scripted & researched video essay commentary video! Leave a like to let me know if you want more of this kind of video in the future!
This video is interesting insofar as it’s the creator’s first venture into video commentary. Due to the hype surrounding GTA6, the fascist/anti-feminist backlash bleeds into the mainstream and now people who had previously not been aware of the fascist/anti-feminist content on social media are exposed to it. [Most of the fascist/anti-feminist content creators she mentions are the usual suspects of fascist/anti-feminist content and have been at it for years.]
She ain’t wrong, a lot of (male?) gamers are just extremely toxic children.
If it upsets you to see someone different than you depicted as powerful in media, you are some kind of bigot.
All you gotta do is go back to horizon. One of my favorite games…and bam neckbeards getting all butthurt that a woman is the main character and not running around with huge boobs and no clothing on. They did the same shit with the new tomb raider. They were pissed that croft didn’t have huge tits and a huge ass in tiny shorts and a crop top…and it was such a good game, that it also was a favorite of mine.
End of the day, it’s neckbeards and wanna be alphas trying to be relevant.
I’ll admit to being a little gutted about Lara Crofts design direction, but thats because I’m horny not sexist. I haven’t played any since 2 and the top-down co-op one though so I’m not really allowed to comment.
The latest one that rebooted the franchise with a British VA, is really really good. You should give it a go, it’s cheap and on sale all the time.

when Lara first kills somebody it’s a traumatic experience for her, but after that cutscene she massacres dudes for the rest of the game without batting an eyelid
but it is a very good game. I really should get around to playing the others, they’ve sat unplayed in my library for years.
I think that first part was supposed to be a shock, and show it’s not going to be like the older games.
Horizon such awesome story and game. Was also the fact that the female character was also asexual. I also found it one of my favorites.
Aloy isn’t exactly ace, at least she’s definitely not aro. She ends up with an adorable crush on a character in the second game.
Yea it was awesome, finding out how everything went to shit was so good and finding little stories of the past buried everywhere made the game that much better. Usually I skip a lot of that filler, because it’s usually just that, filler, but for some reason the filler in HZD didn’t feel like it and had me hunting for it, trying to piece together what had happened.
Me too was in part what made it such great game. I hunted down all the lore I could find.
Yea it was done so well with the lore, usually I just play the main story and call it a day, but hunting for the “wtf happened here” stories were just to good to pass up. It’s like it was this huge puzzle until it’s finally revealed.
Yep it wonderful world I should go back and see it all again. I have the strategy guide and I am sure I missed something. Heck never did get that armor you find not far from home.
I would expand that out to onclude anybody that spends more free time infront of a screen away from other humans, are a toxic bunch.

And things did feel like they got better for a little while. But lately, I feel like this is all coming back into mainstream internet culture,
just using different vocabulary. Now, you’re not saying women don’t belong here. You’re saying DEI ruin this. You’re not saying I don’t want a female protagonist, or maybe some of you are. You’re saying I’m tired of girl bosses. You’re not saying women shouldn’t have power. You’re saying they’re emasculating the male characters. And sometimes those criticisms are legitimate, but sometimes it’s just resentment toward women, just with some better branding now. And I think women like myself need to start being willing to say that out loud, even if it’s scary.Like, I’ll be honest, I’ve been terrified to make this video. I’ve been scripting it for over a week because I know some of the kinds of people that it’s going to attract into my comment section, but I am so so tired of just standing by and letting these other just ragebait voices be amplified because we’ve built an internet economy where telling young men that women are ruining their lives and telling women that all men are horrible gets clicks. So, here’s my question to all of those people who said that GTA 6 looks like feminist slop already:
What kind of woman in gaming are you actually okay with?
Lucia is weaker than Jason, less important than Jason, less assertive than Jason, would that be acceptable? Because if that’s the only kind of female character you’re comfortable with, then we’re not debating character development anymore. We’re debating where women belong. And I’m not interested in negotiating that. Women don’t need to make ourselves feel smaller so that men can feel masculine. A woman succeeding doesn’t mean a man failed. A woman being strong doesn’t make a man weak. A woman having power isn’t inherently feminist propaganda. And a man loving, respecting, or compromising with a woman doesn’t make him less of a man. If your masculinity requires the woman standing next to you to either have less power than you or to not exist at all there, she isn’t the one making you look weak. So maybe GTA 6 comes out and Lucia is the worst character. Maybe Jason is the worst character. Maybe Rockstar completely ruins GTA. I don’t need Lucia to be a good character because she’s a woman. I just want her to be a good character so the game is fun. But I’m also not going to sit here and pretend the reaction that we’re seeing exists entirely because everybody has suddenly become deeply concerned with rock stars writing."
It was so hilariously obvious that the backlash about The Last Of Us part 2 was all about the horror of having to play as a woman instead of John McGun-Bro, rather than because those gamers hated the idea of being able to dive into prone to hide from enemies with improved AI who worked together to hunt you. If Joel had died heroicly at the end of the story destroying the cordeceps mothership with a forehead nuke he would have become so manly in death that the incels all spontaneously grew vaginas at the AMOG of it all.
No one hated playing as Ellie in the first game. Nor with the second.
Worth watching… I never got all the alarm. You can play as a strong woman in Cyberpunk2077 and nobody gave a shit…but maybe that’s because it was a binary choice, where in GTA you can play as one or the other, but the other is always going to be there.

Yup. This might be what makes the difference. Misogyny is still the root issue, of course, but players have to deal with a woman as a main character with agency instead of as a subservient sex object and they don’t like it.

Women are expected to be kind and friendly, so any ‘mean’ woman appears more cruel than socially accepted whereas it is often more acceptable for a man to be cold or blunt. Combine that with women often having to be more consistent with their communication to be taken seriously by their counterparts. Women do not have any greater capability for cruelty nor are they any more capable of homicide than a man.
We’re all humans, there’s bad people and good people, doesn’t matter what gender. Also most people have their good days and bad days, also doesn’t matter what gender.
They pushed Niko’s relationships with everyone in GTA 4, and people look back on that fairly fondly.

Just finished replaying gta4 a week ago, I just ignored the relationship bait and had no issues. It’s entirely optional.
