I think you’re totally right, but also don’t underestimate the average person’s willingness to tolerate being in a bad or even toxic relationship. A lot of those folks are commenting here in this thread

4·3 days agoThere’s nothing “holier than thou” about this my man. There isn’t a crime possible where you’re going to be able to justify rape as an appropriate punishment. They can spend the rest of their lives in prison
Yeah you had me in the first half but went off the rails there
Ok, well then the partner whose time is being monopolized has agency and probably should have ended the relationship before this conversation

9·4 days agoAll I can do is copy my comment from above. Judge a society on how it treats its prisoners. I hope the Tate brothers are imprisoned for decades in accordance with the law

That you’re equating your parents signing you up for inclusion in “Who’s Who” with being assigned to gifted classes as kid is perhaps a testament to the failures of the American education system
The idea of reading level targets is from decades of research in education and human development. It has zero to do with parents’ egos
Having someone read to you when you’re little often is a huge leg up, whether or not you even try to follow along with the words yourself
I just couldn’t disagree more, as the millennial you’re describing and the parent to an 8 year old. There’s nothing at all wrong with a participation trophy, in fact, it boosts kids’ interest and it helps them feel like they belong. Don’t think they’re not also acutely aware of losing a game, or who on the team are the most and least skilled.
At the same time, I’m of the mind that sports should be fun. Cutthroat competition sucks for kids, there’s no reason for it

3·12 days agoI know quite a few people who would be considered moderate who were glad to see this mf die. What centrists are you even talking about?!
Just, like, holding it in his hand?
I was going to say this, being able to talk comfortably about that stuff is usually a sign of emotional security. It’s not your mom’s to share though
