111·17 days agoThe selfhosted guys are correct with that. Of course its not a magic pill, but it can help to minimize the attack surface immensely with little effort.
Edit: while open ports can easily be enumerated, a reverse proxy often requires knowledge of the right server name. In tls1.3 those are not transferred in clear. Depending on your thread scenario you might want to consider doh/dot etc.
Reverse proxies can require client certs, which lift the security benefit to something like a vpn. Even basic auth adds a high threshold to attackers and is simple even for random users to work with. All this is functionality many services don’t offer natively - as they assume a reverse proxy anyway I guess.

3·22 days agoEverything expires, but deleted is not expired. Some day the sun will burn out of fuel and earth will be history. That still does not mean, that if you buy something it shall be taken from you by choice of the vendor.

16·22 days agonote my myself: whenever entering a contract with u/[email protected] just tell him those terms that are not in his favor are just legalese for some edge case and I certainly will voluntarily not make any use of those terms that are totally in my favor and they should not worry.

24·22 days agothis is a horrible take. if you buy something, it should stay yours even if you don’t look at it for 20 years. If Sony opts for not selling CDs any more (asshole move) they should at least carry to burden of storing a few kB per customer. Forever.
but not like this!!!1!!!
