16·8 days agoI wouldn’t celebrate prematurely. It could very well mean that both German and American Amazon profile you, but American is just more transparent about it because Americans aren’t as spooked by surveillance as Germans are.
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

9·14 days agoInterestingly the website menu only links to Privacy page, while the link to the actual privacy policy is in the bottom of the page.
I skimmed through it, haven’t found anything terrible, or any inconsistencies between Privacy and Privacy Policies. But maybe someone has a sharper eye than I do on privacy policies.
Also, I wonder what model is it under the hood. Truth Social was found out to be an illegal fork of Mastodon, so maybe this America AI was some open-weights model too?

5·17 days agoBing and Google. Separate index so far only available for France.
I use it anyway, I like how it shows climate impact I made by using Ecosia with ads (right now it’s 3 trees planted, 22 square meters of land restored).
I use DDG when I need to search pictures though, because Ecosia doesn’t have “no AI pictures” toggle, so it’s all AI slop.
They have had their Store for over 10 years now. I envy you if you haven’t had to deal with Windows for so long. It’s not even user-friendly anymore, it just hates it’s users and constantly tries to scam you with ads and pop-ups

3·1 month agoIt’s immoral to leech off other people’s children tax money, sure.
But also no one wants to be a sucker doing 20+ years of unpaid labor raising kids, so someone else 's S&P 500 keeps growing and sustains a very comfortable retirement plan, and no one will even help you with raising kids anymore.
It’s really the system’s fault, not individuals. It makes it lucrative for every individual human to give as little back, and take as much from everyone else.

You are right, he is on juice, I think he even admitted himself that he is on TRT, which isn’t uncommon for wealthy men his age but yeah.
Still very ironic and inconsistent of him to promote “wellness farms” instead of SSRI’s and Adderall, while being on TRT which has way more side effects.

2·2 months agoI managed to squeeze 5 years out of a $200 budget phone. 7 years on mid-range or flagship is trivial.
Especially as new Pixels have lots of features to improve battery longevity:
-
charging only up to 80%,
-
OLED display that turns off pitch black pixels. Many apps nowadays have pitch black themes, and you can set wallpapers to pitch black,
-
limit display smoothness to 60 Hz,
-
battery saving mode,
-
dark mode,
-
turn off background usage for individual or all apps

politics @lemmy.world•Trump slammed over latest ‘disgusting’ attack on another female reporterEnglish
3·2 months ago40% is an extremely low approval rating in a two-party electoral college system like the US.
In the US, each election is only really decided by 10% of non-partisan Americans, who live in the swing states.
90% of other votes don’t matter, because those are permanently blue or permanently red states, and they cancel each other out.
So for Trump to lose 10% of Americans would mean to lose 100% of people who decide election outcomes.

3·2 months agoSignal people have already explained why they refuse federation.
Basically, looking at history of federated messaging protocols (SMS and email), they are permanently frozen in time, and haven’t had security improvements for decades.
Signal team considers this tradeoff unacceptable, as highly targeted individuals rely on Signal to always keep it’s security model up-to-date against the most capable adversaries.

GOS has compatibility issues, but they are unrelated to the sandbox and can be fixed with some tweaking.

I have trouble believing that. This is talking about Twitter as a monolith when it is actually thousands of isolated algorithmic bubbles
