10 minutes agoRoko’s Basilisk is the stupidest bullshit I’ve ever seen anyone take seriously to outside of conservative Evangelical Christianity or other literal religious cults. It’s just Pascal’s wager for people who think they’re too smart for Pascal’s wager. Why in tf would an artificial superintelligence bother constructing a simulated hell for humans who didn’t contribute to its existence. Does this hypothetical ASI think it can influence the past by acting in the present? I immediately disregard every opinion someone has if they admit to taking Roko’s Basilisk seriously.
I only shit on Big US AI companies because I want Chinese open source AI (and the few smaller US and European companies making open models like Poolside, Mistral, etc.) to make their business model of renting access to frontier AI impossible. I consider correctly aligned AGI in the hands of a for-profit US company to be more of an existential threat than a fully unaligned AGI. I think humanity would be better off extinct than forced to live under the values of Elon Musk or Sam Altman until the heat death of the universe.
