you could also maybe make the cars scan street signs to tell their current location? these street signs largely already exist as human drivers have to read them too. maybe add a QR code for easier readability and extra data.

i had the same realization a while ago

you’re forgetting here that all people want to commute at the same time between 7am and 9am in the morning. so you can’t just operate 1 vehicle 24 hours around, you need the vehicles for these two hours especially and then some in the afternoon.

very interesting concept. another example might be railway drivers who are merely appendices to the vehicle. the vehicle largely drives itself, the driver is mostly there to check tickets, answer passenger’s questions, etc.
