Not the standard answer, but here’s another opinion: I think Signal is a good alternative.
Depends on how you use Instagram. If you’re just sharing with closed groups of friends and family then just make some groups in Signal and share pictures with each other there.
If you want to post to everyone or look at everyone else’s posts then this obviously isnt going to work. But if your use case is as I describe above then just try using your private chat app.

You don’t need to get to a Steam “backlog” just because it is there. Just play games you enjoy and ignore the rest.
If you’re partway through a game and it doesn’t feel fun anymore then just abandon it.
If an old game is going to be fun to replay, then there’s no rule to say you have to pick something new. Play the old game for the thousandth time and enjoy. I’m playing Ballionaire like a maniac while my wife judges me for continuing to ignore Expedition 33.

This is what the Gabe Cube and Steam Deck are for. Price rises have been unfortunate and normies aren’t going to consider those anymore. I guess the Nintendo Switch 2 with some game cartridges might be their next choice…although this is obviously a huge mistake if the point was to find a company with consumer friendly practices.

It is impossible to make a good decision. There are so many brands, and information that is important is so difficult to find. I’ll happily pay more for brands that focus on sustainability, avoid slave-labour-like practices, support communities, don’t fund genocide, etc. But it is exhausting trying to keep up. I see it on Lemmy all the time…a digital product I use or pay for because the last information I had was that they’re good; but then there’s an uproar that it was bought out or the founder supports some appalling ideology or something. Can’t fucking keep up.

You’re correct in saying that their primary goal has seen resounding success.
OpenSUSE got me onto Linux and was such a great option for a first distro. I still think about changing back sometimes. I’m surprised it doesn’t get recommended more often.
