I agree with the sentiment, and I really don’t want to be an asshole here… but are you SURE you didn’t have time to do a second take on that sign? Don’t get me wrong, I’m bad at spacing out big letters too, it usually takes me a couple tries to get it right, but this doesn’t look like they even made an attempt. It honestly looks like they wrote “No data centers” but then went back to try to squeeze in “AI”. And like… it probably didn’t take that long to make it in the first place, were they just completely out of paper and this was their one chance? Even more frustrating though, there were almost certainly dozens more (better) signs that the article could’ve used but THAT one, which was clearly a mistake, was the one they went with?

Others have said it better than I ever could, but in my own words, even IF every person who bought these was the epitome of the highest moral and ethical standards, I would still be uncomfortable due to the way-too-high possibility of them being ‘hacked’ remotely which would still have the potential to destroy lives

But if they were, then they’d be even stupider to preserve them. It’s like he’s trying to bluff his way into winning a game of poker but then flipping the cards to reveal he’s got the worst possible hand before anyone else can even make a bet (idk, not my best analogy but I’m sticking with it)

I don’t buy that number either, but the Guinness people are really more so a service where you pay them to certify your ‘record’ rather than all-knowing, impartial arbitrator of world records. If you think you’ve done or have the longest/biggest/most whatever thing, YOU go to THEM, pay a few fees (up to half a million dollars in some cases), and if they like it, they’ll give you the certificate. And if you don’t quite meet the requirements for what you said, they’ll usually tweak them a little bit to make your attempt worth it. There are several videos I could recommend that all do a deep dive into what the GBWR actually does, but I’d recommend this episode of John Oliver (below). The relevant section starts around 14:45 (also it’s just fun, to me at least, to hear the name of the guy he’s talking about)
