I’m rocking a 2006 VW Polo. Thing’s a beast. Almost no power, endless tiny things wrong, but I got pushed off the road by a cement pump truck…and I mean…yeah it was “written off” but only because popping the dents and repainting it would be more than it’s value. Most of what’s gone wrong I’ve been able to fix myself for less than £100, and going to my friend’s place to use his garage and big jack.

Oh, we definitely were. If you don’t want something connected to the cloud, your options are:

• buy from a very small company
• build yourself something, kitcar style
• buy something from 20 years ago

No worries. It’s way less resource hungry than WinBoat, so should have a much smoother experience.

FL Studio was the reason it took me so long to ditch windows. Try bottles. Don’t bother with the automatic configuration, just install it in a default gaming setup. Very minor tweaks got it working better than in win11 on my laptop.

WinBoat is essentially a VM, but it runs in the background and you can add installed programs to your hotbar/start bar/desktop. So that’s neat.

If it’s the software thing

There’s a fair few projects working towards getting windows software to work in Linux beyond wine. WinBoat and bottles to name the two I use frequently. I set-up WinBoat for my wife because office360. Took a little bit of fiddling with settings for WinBoat to run nicely on her 2017 MacBook air with a Ubuntu derivative OS…but it works as it would on windows…so poorly.

I don’t know how they can possibly miss that the Federation is functionally a post-scarcity socialist utopia.

Because there’s been a decades long effort to make American education really bad. There’s very little ability for critical thinking in that group of people.

The occasional forum crawling is a bit annoying

I was on windows since 3.1, dual booted various distros of Linux the past 15 years, and removed windows from my computers over a year ago.
I would have to crawl forums to find fixes for stupid shit in windows once in awhile, less than Linux 15 years ago, but more than Linux in the lead up to getting rid of it. The thing that really pissed me off was the most egregious issues with win10/11 that id be looking for solutions to would always be changed back on the next update.
