To be fair, there are several ‘types’ of home that have ways of avoiding building codes. For example, Alaska is notorious for the most lax building codes and easiest to get around. Want to build your own bushman log cabin on your 100 acres that barely passes as a shack but won’t immediately kill anyone? Go for it. But if you are a track home builder trying to stand up a new neighborhood, follow the code.

It isn’t legal to build new homes that vent to the inside. In the US, there is no national build code, only states regulate code. But all states default to some minimum year of the ICC codes. At this point there are no remaining states where it is legal to have a new build vented inside.
This isn’t to say though that some states were late to adopt a minimum year that finally included it and maybe your semi-new-ish house just barely fell under old regulations when it was built. That said, cities can also enforce a higher code if the building is being rented out and needs to have an occupancy license and may force an owner to do the upgrade before renting out.
I am the same way. For me I just memorized 2 C to F conversions and work it as a relativity from there. 22C is about 72F, the perfect inside temp to me. Then because I live in a hot place my other anchor is 40C being 104F. To me that is the threshold going from “fuck this is hot” to “shitty hot, avoid outside”.
I would recommend just memorizing some key anchor points that are normal for your climate and learning from those.
I am in the sciences. I support measuring in C and accept its rational design. But being American I also understand the appeal of F. Of the two scales it best describes the human experience. When we are talking about the weather and how it will impact my very human day, I want F. When I an measuring my whatever-the-fuck-else for science I want it in C.
I grew up in Texas. I am peak millennial (dead center of the generation). I remember growing up in Houston and seeing dallas would get light snow most winters and “artic blasts” were never a thing. Heat waves never got above 104. It was a record just hitting it, and was unheard to go above it before that.
Now? Ever year it is all but guaranteed it will get above 104. Normal snow in dallas? Nope. Ice storms from polar vortex collapse only.
This is what climate change looks like. These temps are absolutely abnormal when you look at the hundred plus years of recorded climate data. Our adaption as a species is our technology. AC.
What’s funny is that I used to live in Phoenix for a year. I would happily take the higher dry heat over the almost as high wet heat. When I lived there it was like walking into an oven and you could feel your sweat pours opening. But the sweating evaporated quickly and provided cooling as long as you stayed hydrated. Shade works and you can see how the natives protected themselves from the sun and had passive cooling that worked. In the wet heat it is more like Satan is pissing on you and you have no hope. Your body is dumping sweat and it does nothing because the humidity is too high to evaporate. Shade? Worthless beyond the immediate sun protection. A few degrees at most. Without AC you will only cool with high winds or a fan.
Fun fact I never knew until living there: when it hits 112 (and it does) the airport has to partially shut down and divert all non-high-temp aircraft. The tarmac is so hot it will pop normal tires at a high rate. So unless you have the expensive higher temp rated tires for planes based out of high temp areas, then you can’t land there when it is too hot.
Oh shit. Honestly I feel more for you guys than me. We have infrastructure built for it. Everything has AC. I even just put a window unit in my bedroom to take some load off the older main unit that has been struggling to keep up. But over there you were never built for that kind of heat. I wish you all the best with climate change.
Today is 42.2 C for me today. Then you factor humidity on top of that and it becomes like the gates of hell. Then I remember that I live in dallas and I basically already am in hell.

I got the chance to do this training as a non-medic through a private military contractor company, paid for by my unit, for my first deployment to Afghanistan. We were part of the pilot program for the TCCC (trauma combat casualty care) training (the same program went into effect years later, but HEAVILY watered down on training requirements). The ‘live tissue lab’ was only after about two weeks of intense classroom training with testing after and required scores to progress after every few days. It was taught by a few prior air force PJ’S and some trauma surgeons. It was the equivalent of all the trauma training medics get without the drug portions (since we are not medics, we are not allowed to push drugs).
On the day of the live tissue lab there was an ethics briefing along with a veterinarian briefing telling us all the do’s and dont’s and when to alert him or one of the techs. Basically, they are all hogs that were bought off slaughter farms but did not meet standards for food consumption and were going to get killed anyways but not used (think sick/diseased or possible deformity or injuries). The pigs are drugged up with everything you can imagine and completely disassociate. Part of the briefing from the vet was the signs to look for if the drugs were wearing off and when to grab them to drug them up more. The training went through hands on portions of everything we saw in class and real use of all the products and techniques we were trained on. It was to this day the best trauma training I have ever been through, seen, or heard of.
There are many people that want to argue about the ethics of it, and having been through it I actually side with the training. There was one guy in our unit that got hit with an indirect missile strike on base and was saved by one of the guys who went through the training and was only able to save him because of what he learned and his experience he went through. That training unquestionably saves lives.
I would argue that Mamdani, AOC, Sanders, and any others who follow that same path are all parts of a different party that is simply forced to run on the Democrat ballot. Meanwhile the true Democrats and Republicans are two wings of the same Corprocrat party who is there to progress the interests of corporations and the only divide is on what to do with the ‘remaining’ population.
