I see your argument, but I’ve never heard of anything like that happening, and locked-both-sides deadbolts are presumably legal in Australia since basically every house has them.

By whom tho? Someone wishing harm to the residents? If they’re already inside they could be more direct.

Deadbolt doesn’t get locked unless everyone is out of the house.

It’s not for me. The deadbolt only gets locked when everyone is out of the house. The idea is to make robbing the place discretely harder. Sure, windows remain a weakness, but if a thief enters through the window and cannot open the door, they have to leave via the window too.

I want to get some kind of smart lock myself, but I can’t find one that would adequately replace what I have in terms of security. Basically, the combination of an Australian deadbolt (which can only be opened or locked with a key regardless of which side of the door you’re on) and a regular latch, allowing the door essentially to be in one of three states: unlocked, locked from the outside, and locked from both sides. Such a product doesn’t seem to exist. They can all be opened by hand on the inside. And I feel this would cause my insurance to go up being less secure.
