A/I stands for Autistici/Inventati.

A/I (Autistici/Inventati, pronounced [au’tistiʧi]-[iŋ’vɛntati], or [iŋvɛn’tati]) was born in 2001 from an encounter of individuals and collectives of the autonomous anticapitalist movement interested in technology and active in the digital rights struggle. We believe that this world is far from being the best world possible. We react by providing a platform and tools for digital self-defense addressing the need of free communication for activists and other individuals.

The day we discovered we had been designated a global terrorist organization, we promised that we would try to resist as long as this was possible, that we would not back down as long as we could see options to stand our ground.

We cannot engage in a fight or expose ourselves to manipulations that threaten the lives of these people and their loved ones, leaving them at the mercy of autocrats, fascists and agencies that take extra-legal courses of action.

What happened? First their main domain, autistici.org, was blocked globally by the US entity that provides the “.org” TLD. More recently their bank shut down their funds because of caving in to pressure that ultimately comes from the same source.

I also made some posts about this earlier. You can probably guess that I’ve been relying on their services, for a long time. And not even for particularly political reasons - they give email accounts to people who care for privacy and anonymity. Or used to.

Personally I’m just shocked how US policy reaches and impacts my normal peaceful European life.

Fuck the US government. Being AntiFa is not terrorism. Being against AntiFa means you’re Fa.

Remember:
This can happen to any “.org” domain, and possibly many other TLDs that are controled by entities that are prone to give into US bullying. Or your bank will cave to US pressure.

    So you are aware that it is the US government that is suppressing in this particular situation correct?

    Like not disputing the tech of TOR it’s just with the administration as is I don’t think it should be something any FOSS privacy first project should be funding dependent on.

        You can give as much logic as you like but at the end of the day the administration is not a fan of any supposed leftists (anyone bthat just doesn’t agree with the administration.) So would find TOR an enemy by making their tech easily accessible (more or less) to everyone including those it hates

            Sure the Tor network proper should be able survive if the Organization behind it is gone, but still the org is at risk with it’s funding being government dependent

              It’s a nonprofit in the US. If the government disolves them, you’ll have military intelligence folks in Russia, China, Israel, etc all chip in.

              All the good guys and the bad guys rely on Tor for anonymity

                Note as you said. A nonprofit in the US. Meaning their financials have to follow US law.

                The US state doesn’t like China so I doubt would legally allow it.

                Russia under the current administration is plausible but there would be user side concern of Kremlin influence and use in their own crimes against humanity.

                Fuck Israel so TOR would risk getting boycotted if they take their money.

                And as for Eroupe while the least problematic of alternatives they have been musing over having the age verification BS so there is that.

                Again the tech is not in question, there is no dispute that TOR provides anaonimity it is simply the State being the donor concern of that being lost. With the State it’s privacy for them not us
