Alright, fair enough. I hadn’t seen any of those specific articles, but you’ve shown that the idea that there wasn’t any coverage is verifiably false. I wish there was a hell of a lot more to the point where nobody could miss it, but that’s a separate argument to make.
As for whether the news allows people to come to their own conclusions, I think the bigger issue is that people have already formed their own conclusions, and the news isn’t currently direct enough to shake those opinions. Not all opinions are made equal, and while I understand that my own opinions are just as susceptible to misinformation as anyone else’s, that’s all the more reason for the to be a system to put everyone - myself included - on the spot and force them to reassess what they believe.
People are meant to reassess their beliefs on their own, but they often don’t, as you’ve alluded to yourself with regards to the upvotes in this very thread. It’s no longer something I believe we can afford to ignore. The weak language currently used in media allows people who believe misinformation to continue doing so. I’m sick of waiting for them to come around; now I want to confront people to either see the truth or admit that the truth doesn’t matter to them, and I see the media as being the organization to force that issue.
A change needs to happen, one way or another. Sitting here staring into the abyss we’re slowly sliding into isn’t doing us or the world as a whole any good. Maybe there just isn’t a nonviolent way to do it, but I’d prefer to try something like a more direct media tactic before we continue our slow and steady march toward either revolution or even more largely unopposed fascism.
