People are being persuaded into believing Columbus was a fun explorer and he’s the reason civility was brought to the americas, when in fact the only export was barbarism, death, famine, and bloodshed.

Good and bad is a huge simplification, but I do agree with you on that.
I do not think this does push towards certain positions, for one because these are facts which happened a long time ago; even rewriting history completely about that time does not have a huge impact on current times in my opinion.
