Oh shit, people think we’re creepy like flock. Let’s do what flock is working towards and drop the camera and move towards EVERY OTHER FORM OF FUCKING TRACKING AND SELLING DATA.

I wonder what the fallout from all this failed voyerism tech will be? What unexpected uses will we find for this spy shit? Ruview already looks like an interesting alternative to mmWave security sensors. What else can we come up with?

If it wasn’t going through their servers, i could stand to use it for drone flights, augmented reality GPS directions, monitoring shit at work, I’d not even pull my phone out of my pocket if I could get away wiht it.

You can also take any flagship smartphone with a wide-angle lens and aim it down at 45 degrees, video content straight ahead, and unwarp/crop it in software. Ever since the advent of the smartphone camera, people have been voyureing.

It does make problems, it makes the creeps a little more brazen. There are assholes going on dates with that shit, and there are people defeating the camera light. It feels creepier to the masses because it’s no longer surreptitious, but it’s only not blaringly obvious like holding a phone up (which they wrongly assume voyeurs are doing.

it’s how people are choosing to use it, it’s more stealthly that most people think, they aren’t THAT obvious, they really need some kind of very clear ‘this is a recording camera’ tell that can’t be turned off, no one who wants to do legit things with it would care. like how you can’t mute shutter sounds on phones sold in Japan.

like how you can’t mute shutter sounds on phones sold in Japan.

Except by downloading any of hundreds of camera apps. The only non-mutable sound is on the phone’s native camera.

Went to get glasses and made a big point of avoiding Ray Bands for taking Facebook money to make pervert glasses. Hoping it’s not the first time they’ve heard that.

I do actually like the classic nerd look of their glasses, but yeah, fuck that.

That’s why I cut out the middle man. I place a screen at a predictable distance from my face all the time and let the cameras autofocus. AI makes everyone hot too.

The ads are a bitch though, but the Ritalin I got from Hims helps.

Yep. I go to Costco now because I’m blind in one eye so the correction is only for the other eye. Costco only charges me 50% of the normal lens cost and the blind eye just gets a balance lens (weight matched to the other without correction).

I’ve walked out with a brand new pair of lenses and frames for $30 after my eye “insurance”.

Why do you need glasses at all for a version with no camera? Can’t someone just wear earbuds in that case? Can’t someone’s regular bluetooth (or even tethered) earbuds just talk to the phone in their pocket to do everything?

A glasses with a display were always my dream. But with actually good controls, which it looks like the current iteration of pervert glasses actually have, it’s more than I ever dreamed for. You can display a minimap there, you can do some media control, display relevant info if you’re working on something, speaker’s notes when you do the presentation, the possibilities are numerous.
If there will be a distinct version without a camera I might actually consider overcoming my hate for Zuck’s bullshit (but more probably I’ll wait for zuckless version)

I know it is your dream. But, doing a presentation while wearing sunglasses indoor doesn’t exactly transmit humanity, connection nor empathy. I would nope out of that presentation. Everything else is just an app. They are all non-critical things, they don’t require a HUD.

Anyways, that’s irrelevant because meta glasses don’t have screens. So, no AR functionality.

They don’t have to be sunglasses. Google glasses worked how many years ago.

          They are all non-critical things

I mean, nothing strictly speaking is. But having hands-free screen actually opens some nice possibilities that holding a phone in your hand doesn’t afford.

Wait, they don’t? What the fuck is the point then.

I will say the point, it is an extension of your phone essentially. A very expensive, pointless, and ultimately creepy extension.

It’s like buying a smart watch, so you can ask it stuff, and not use anything else it can do. When your phone can probably still listen to you perfectly fine.

they are creep glasses with hidden cameras that record people in public and can use AI to identify people and find their social medias and shit at a glance.

supposed to have an LED that indicates when the cameras on, but there is a big underground industry of disabling the LED without disabling the camera so creepers can record without people knowing.

also facebook gets a copy of everything you see and do, which is especially problematic in bathrooms, in doctors offices, etc.

      Big creepy pervert stalker stuff.

“Oh, don’t worry, these are actually the Meta Glasses Freedom©®™. They’re actually pretty innovative! I can go off-grid while still feeling so connected to all my feeds! Instead of recording to the cloud, I can use my new Freedoms©®™ to record moments directly to my brain using the new Facebook BAM technology. Yup, these babies don’t have a single semiconductor, but Zuck still managed to somehow run Brain Access Memory on them! The best part is how cheap they are! Nearly half the price, and you get a 10% discount on their AI subscription since these glasses don’t actually transfer any data. But that subscription lets the Meta Glasses Freedom©®™ assist me with directly accessing memories whether the glasses were present or not! It’s a pretty sweet deal, if you really think about it.”
