I moved from sysadmin to technical pre-sales a few years ago and I’m happy with the move. Though honestly I enjoyed being a sysadmin as well - from my experiences it’s more the work environment and the collegues than the actual work you do that makes or breaks a job.

13·1 day agoMost of it. Though at the same time, a ton of security vulnerabilities are also coming out thanks to AI so companies are playing catch-up.
Pretty solid for various handicaps and such.

1·3 days agoI think creating art is a goal onto itself and it’s something people will do regardless of AI. Like, if I like to write, the act of writing is the important part, more than the end result. Similar for music, movies, etc. For all the ai generated slop that’s out there, there will always be that person who enjoys picking up a paintbrush and going to town.

1·3 days agoYeah, there are a couple of programs that turn off things like ad tracking and telemetry in Windows. I also use Chocolatey to install software, most of it open-source (Firefox, VLC, etc).

2·4 days agoYup, and there’s more and more various ads in these programs as well. The worst is on the mobile version of Outlook, in the calendar, it says ‘Give me something to do’ or something along these lines. I’m like bitch please, I have enough shit to do without Copilot coming up with stuff based on my calendar.

11·4 days agoYeah, I’ve ran the gamut from Linksys (started with the WRT-54gl, legendary), to TP-Link and Asus, moving to Syonology and finally landing on Ubiquity. I agree - by far the most capable and reliable of all these. Especially since I’ve gotten into setting up a homelab with VLANs and such. The synology has support for this but it’s not the greatest.

At this point I find the errors are pretty rare and much prefer self-checkout, mainly because it’s faster, and as you put it, I often don’t care for peopling.
